The Community Answers: What’s the Silliest Question You’ve been Asked About OWS?
Open water swimming, like any outdoor activity, is hard to fully understand until you experience it first-hand. Encouraging and being open to questions from people not actively swimming in the open water is a great way to introduce new people to the activity, and to help it grow.
These questions can vary, with some being more common than others. In a recent Odyssey Ask the Community post, we asked open water swimmers what’s the silliest question they’ve ever been asked about open water swimming. See their responses below.
“Are there sharks in the water?” - Elise C.
“All the damn time!” - Ev Rodas
“Do you worry about getting hit by boats?” - Matt L.
“Always about sharks 🦈 Too many people watched Jaws.” - Gary W.
“Aren’t you afraid of sharks?” - @fly_like_a_grigull
“Will there be sharks?” - @lajollaswimandsport
“The shark thing as well.” - @walzmusic
“Always a question about sharks… Do you worry about a shark attack? Have you seen a shark while swimming? What happens if there are sharks? …” - @kateandrup
“Why would you swim all the way across the lake…???” - @gofostersomething
