2019 Odyssey Splash & Dash

2019 Odyssey Splash & Dash

Ready for a friendly test of your abilities as an athlete?

Want the rush of competing without the anxiety that comes with most races?

Seeking a fun time among friends?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, then it’s time to start getting ready for the 2nd Annual Splash & Dash duathlon from Odyssey Open Water Swimming, the host of over 500 swims and events since 2013. The Splash & Dash event will take place on July 11, 2020, and is open to athletes of varying levels of experience and skill.

Odyssey grew from a local interest for Bay Area open water swimming adventures in a safe, fun, and community-like atmosphere. Events hosted each year include the Splash & Dash, public Berkeley swims (weekly and twice a week in spring and summer), Bridge to Bridge swim, private group swims, Alcatraz swims (public and private), Bay Bridge swim, and night swims

What is a Duathlon? Odyssey Open Water Swimming’s Splash & Dash

A duathlon is a two-event competition. The Splash & Dash is a unique duathlon. Most duathlons consist of a running leg, biking leg, and then a second, final running let. In the Odyssey Splash & Dash, the duathlon is a swim and run race, starting with a swim leg and finishing with a single run. The times of the run and swim portion of the race are combined to determine the order of finish.

Odyssey Splash & Dash Duathlon Distance

The Splash & Dash duathlon features two separate distance tracks:

  • Sprint distance (.5 mile swim, 3.1 mile run)

  • Olympic distance (.93 mile swim, 6.2 mile run)

The two tracks give participants options that best fit their level of experience and comfort.

For the first time in Odyssey Open Water Swimming’s history, we hosted our first duathlon in 2019. The event is back and we expect an even bigger turnout.

This unique swim/run event is open to athletes of all experience levels. Participants will begin by swimming around buoys in the protected South Sailing Basin of the Berkeley Marina. Racers will then hop out and strap on their shoes for a run along the path by the water.
