What to Bring on Your First Open Water Swim
New hobbies can be difficult to start. With open water swimming, there are many obstacles you’ll face when you’re first getting started. It can also be a scary hobby to start, in part because it can be dangerous.
Odyssey Open Water Swimming has been helping people in the Bay Area experience fun and safe open water swimming adventures in the East Bay since 2013. Each swim features swim support and/or swim coaches who can provide support and assist swimmers out of the water if they need the help.
New open water swimmers should be competent swimmers who are ready to try swimming outside of a pool. Depending on the length of the open water swim, they should be able to at least swim that distance without stopping in a standard pool.
Before you go on your first open water swim, you should plan to bring the following items with you:
Swimsuit/Wetsuit
Goggles
Brightly colored swim cap (buy one from us for $4)
Towel
Warm clothes, food, and water if the water is cold
Earplugs
