Odyssey Alcatraz 6/24: Behind the Scenes

A group of around 80 swimmers came out for the 6/24 Odyssey Alcatraz swim. Swimmers jumped in just outside of Alcatraz Island and made their way to the St. Francis Yacht Club during the two mile swim.

Coming along for the swim as a support paddler was Michael Powers. Michael is a friend of Captain Taylor, paddler extraordinaire, photographer, and “all-round good dude.” He is also one of the founders of the Tsunami Rangers, an extreme paddling group. Michael paddled in a beautiful mahogany kayak while safely guiding swimmers to shore.

Michael captured several pictures of Captain Taylor during the safety swim briefing, which inspired this short post of “behind the scenes” photos. Thank you to everyone who makes Odyssey Alcatraz swims possible, fun, and safe, from planners to paddlers to our amazing swimmers!
