Let’s Get Virtual! Pacific Masters Eight Bridges Virtual Swim Event
Pacific Masters Swimming is launching an exciting virtual swim challenge that includes the eight Bay Area bridges.
“Pacific Masters is offering a new virtual swim starting June 1 -- log your swims (SCY, SCM, LCM, open water) to virtually go from bridge to bridge in the Bay Area. It's unsanctioned, open to all, runs from June through September, and is just for fun.”
The cost of the event is $10 per person and $30 per relay (2-4 people). Pacific Masters will donate 20% of proceeds from the events (after administrative costs are covered) to baykeepers.org. According to Rebecca Friedlander, Pacific Masters hopes to expand the event in future years to “offer awards, badges of each bridge, etc.”
As mentioned, the Eight Bridges event begins 6/1 and will end on 9/30. Distances will be logged virtually and can include pool and open water swimming. Your progress will be tracked virtually and based on the honor system.
Virtual Bridge Swims Include:
Dumbarton to San Mateo-Hayward (8.1miles)
San Mateo-Hayward to Bay (16.8 miles)
Bay to Golden Gate (6.1 miles)
Golden Gate to Richmond (8.8 miles)
Richmond to Carquinez (16.2 miles)
Carquinez to Benicia (6.2 miles)
Benicia to Antioch (21.3 miles)
Total: 83.5 Miles
Odyssey’s weekly Berkeley swims, held on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings, provide the perfect opportunity to track and record your distances for this virtual event. Compete along with us and swimmers from around the world.
Also, don’t forget that Odyssey Open Water Swimming hosts a Bridge to Bridge swim, that takes swimmers from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay Bridge. We are hosting two editions of the 6-mile swim and there is still space available in the 10/14 swim. Learn more about the Odyssey Bridge to Bridge swim here.
