The Community Answers, “At What Water Temp Do You Stop Wearing a Full Wetsuit?”
We all have different preferences when swimming in the open water. Believe it or not, but something as simple as wearing a wetsuit can be controversial among open water swimmers. We recently asked the open water swimming community, “At what water temperature do you stop wearing a full wetsuit?” Here are the responses we received on Facebook and Instagram:
“What’s a wetsuit?” - Robert Marcial
“Body temp!!” - Lingua Franka
“Never really worn a full wetsuit.” - Andrew Pierce
“Never! . But at 60 and above I can swim without one comfortably if I choose to. But I like the buoyancy.” - Aaron Walz
“Join club speedo you know you want to!” - Niki McBrown
“I did for like 6 weeks then I wore my wetsuit and I’m like.... this is way better. Though lately I am getting a lot of neck rash and body glide is not helping!” - Aaron Walz
“So just nude swimming? Sorry just looks like you’re all wearing wet suits.” - Suzi Le Bon
“Any temperature.” Andrew O’Mahoney
“I don’t wear one. Can’t stand them. Lowest temp I’ve swam in was 37 Lake Tahoe New Year’s Day Swim.” @fairy.trail.triathlete
“82 😂.” @ultraheidi

“I think in Oct’20 the water in the Bay was low 60s? That was pretty chilly & I noticed the surface of my skin was numb when I got out but the movement & body heat made it tolerable.”
“Feb and March we got down to 35...we don’t do the wetsuit thing.” @5spears5
“65.”
“April…” @salty_bay_swimmer
“I never tried a wetsuit. 😉 I swim until the water is OC.” @peter.plavec
