Bay Bridge Swim: Understanding the Currents from Yerba Buena Island
“This is one of my favorite swims from this distance range.” — Warren Wallace
On July 31, over 35 swimmers will join Odyssey Open Water Swimming for a 2-mile swim from Yerba Buena Island to Pier 1 1/2 in San Francisco. The swim, called the Odyssey Bay Bridge Swim, is a unique crossing that is for experienced swimmers. “I love being able to clock your progress as you go along the bridge… I love being able to aim for San Francisco… also, swimming under the bridge is a surreal experience,” says Warren Wallace, Odyssey Open Water Swimming’s Founder. Warren recently completed a test crossing in preparation for the swim, and created a whiteboard video to explain the currents from Yerba Buena Island to Pier 1 1/2.
The video explains the course and where a Bay Bridge swimmer needs to aim for during different points of the swim. The kayakers and swim coaches on site will help guide swimmers to ensure they have a safe crossing that ends at or near our target at Pier 1 1/2 in San Francisco.
Please watch and share the video!
Before the swim, Warren and the Odyssey team will give advice based on the current conditions in the San Francisco Bay. Limited spots in the 7/31 Odyssey Bay Bridge swim are still available. Learn more and sign up for the swim here.
