New Odyssey Swimmer Completes Challenge Salou Triathlon! Congrats Julia!
“My swim with Odyssey was KEY as it was the first time I swam in non-transparent waters and it was the mental preparation I ended up needing to be able to complete the swim :-).” -- Julia Poncar
We love celebrating the success of our community. Odyssey Open Water Swimming is a community of athletes, open water swimming enthusiasts, and people who enjoy new and interesting adventures from around the world. Today, we’d like to celebrate Julia Poncar’s completion of the Challenge Salou triathlon. .
Julia, who’s from Barcelona, sent us the following message and she gave us permission to share it with you:
“Last Sunday was the big day -- my first triathlon... Last summer I was barely able to crawl 100m in one go and on Sunday I faced 1.900m with 15C cold water, stirred up by 20+knot winds.... the water was choppy, murky, cold and salty.
I was one of the slowest participants, and the conditions where more than adverse - but I kept swimming and finished the 1.900m swim in exactly 1h. My swim with Odyssey was KEY as it was the first time I swam in non-transparent waters and it was the mental preparation I ended up needing to be able to complete the swim :-).”
We are proud to have been a small part of Julia’s journey through completing her first triathlon. I’m sure that everyone in our community will agree with me in saying that it doesn’t matter how slow your times were for your first triathlon -- finishing the race is a significant accomplishment that you should be very proud of. We’re proud of you Julia!
Julia went on to say that after her hour-long swim, “the 60k cycle and 11k run were almost a piece of cake.” She also wanted to thank the Odyssey coaches and guides. “Their feedback was really important for me,” Julia stated.
Congratulations once again to Julia!
