Join The First Ever Splash & Dash June 8th! Odyssey Open Water Swimming's Newest Event
Be a part of history and a fun, challenging event by registering for the first ever Splash & Dash from Odyssey Open Water Swimming! Splash & Dash, which will take place on June 8, is a unique event in which each participant will first swim, and then strap on their running shoes for a race on foot.
Splash & Dash Format
Starting in the South Sailing Basin of the Berkeley Marina, participants will begin the Splash & Dash by swimming around one of two courses outlined by buoys. After completing the swim, each competitor will get out of the water to begin the run portion of the event along the path by the water. This will be a low-pressure, friendly race to give athletes a chance to test their limits and improve their times in the water and on land.
There are two tracks for this event:
Sprint
In the sprint distance, athletes will complete a .5 mile swim and 3.1 mile run.
Olympic
In the olympic track of the event, competitors will complete a .93 mile swim and 6.2 mile run.
When asked why the event was created, Odyssey Open Water Swimming Founder Warren Wallace states:
All our Berkeley swims and other big events, even challenging swims like Bridge to Bridge and TransBay are untimed. This allows swimmers to swim at their own pace without the added stress of competition. While we enjoy the friendly, comfortable environment this fosters, we love racing and try to offer at least one timed race event each year. This year we decided to branch out and add a run portion for an extra challenge. This gives participants a chance to test their skills in a race environment and get their times to see how they are performing.
